Charm & Character

A 350-year-old Rajput haveli on the shores of Lake Pichola in Udaipur, facing the City Palace. 20 heritage rooms and Ambrai waterfront restaurant.

Amet Haveli occupies a heritage residence over three centuries old on the western shore of Lake Pichola in Udaipur. From its water-facing balconies, views sweep across the City Palace and the line of palaces bordering the opposite bank. This is an address where architecture matters as much as service: a haveli converted into a boutique hotel, preserved in its original volume.

Why choose Amet Haveli

  • A historic 350-year-old haveli restored in keeping with its Rajput architectural heritage
  • Direct waterfront location on Lake Pichola, facing the City Palace
  • Limited capacity of 20 rooms that preserves an intimate atmosphere
  • The on-site Ambrai restaurant, one of the city's most sought-after dining spots for its waterfront setting
  • Cohesive Rajput-era décor throughout, from the foyer to the rooms

Ambiance and architecture

Amet Haveli is a 350-year-old haveli situated on the shores of Lake Pichola in Udaipur. Restorations carried out over the decades have been undertaken with respect for the building's original architectural style: carved arches, jharokhas (overhanging balconies), interior courtyards, and worked stucco. The décor reflects the Rajput era, with dark wood furnishings, ornate mirrors, embroidered textiles, and carefully applied touches of colour.

The whole functions as a lived testament to the lifestyle of Mewar's elite, without tipping into museum recreation. The immediate proximity to water and the view of the City Palace structure the experience: light shifts throughout the day, and sunset over the lake remains the stay's defining moment.

Rooms

The haveli contains 20 rooms, each with an en-suite bathroom equipped with modern facilities. The owners' approach is to integrate contemporary comfort—bedding, air conditioning, hot water—into a period envelope without visual disruption. Room volumes vary according to the building's original configuration; some open directly onto the lake, others onto interior courtyards.

Services

Ambrai Restaurant

The Ambrai restaurant, located on-site at the water's edge, offers a multi-cuisine menu blending Indian specialties—Rajasthani, North Indian, and tandoor dishes—with international fare. Its terrace overlooking the City Palace has made it a recognised Udaipur address, frequented by travellers and local diners alike. Reservations are advised during peak season, even for hotel guests.
