The spirit of travel
This trip begins with two nights in Delhi, discovering the Mughal Red Fort, the Jama Masjid mosque and the Mahatma Gandhi memorial. Next heading to Guwahati, capital of Assam, gateway to the Kaziranga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Three days are dedicated to observing the one-horned rhinoceros - the park is home to two-thirds of the world's population - tigers and other species, by vehicle and elephant back, with a boat excursion on the Brahmaputra to catch sight of Ganges dolphins.
The trip continues to the Sunderban national park, a vast mangrove delta home to tigers, with two nights in a lodge in the heart of the forest and boat explorations. It ends in Kolkata, India's intellectual capital, with a visit to the Kali temple and the Victoria Memorial, a remnant of the colonial era.

Highlights
Day-by-day itinerary

Delhi: visit
In the morning, we visit the fortified city of Old Delhi: today popular and buzzing with activity, this district continues to reflect the reign of the Mughals who once ruled from atop the ramparts of the magnificent Red Fort. We visit notably Jama Masjid - the largest mosque in India, built in the 17th century. Next, we pass through New Delhi to visit the India Gate, Rashtrapati Bhavan (the Presidential Palace), Parliament and other colonial buildings built by British architect Edwin Lutyens, during the first half of the 20th century.

Delhi - Guwahati by plane and road to Kaziranga
Guwahati → Kaziranga National Park
Upon our arrival, we are welcomed by our local correspondent and travel to Kaziranga. Kaziranga is a vast expanse covered with elephant grass and dense tropical rainforest, crossed by four rivers including the Brahmaputra, the most emblematic, as well as many other small watercourses. The park was established in 1905 as a protected forest. It is also an important nesting and migration site recognized by ornithologists from around the world.

Kaziranga National Park
Two jeep safaris are scheduled, one in the morning and one in the evening. The park is particularly known for its large population of one-horned rhinoceroses. It is home to the largest population of this endangered species

Kaziranga National Park
This morning, we set off on elephant back towards the more rugged central part of the park. Return to the hotel for breakfast. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985, the park is home to numerous species, several of which are endangered. Apart from the rhinoceros, you can observe wild elephants, water buffalo, marsh deer and, with luck, the tiger. There are countless species of domestic and migratory birds. Located on the banks of the impressive Brahmaputra, it offers different types of vegetation and remarkable flora.
The elephant safari lasts 1.5 to 2 hours, from 5:30 to 7:30 in the morning.
After lunch, another jeep safari is planned. It takes place from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM.

Kaziranga National Park
The morning is dedicated to a boat excursion, ideal for observing animals coming to drink before the heat of the day.
Free afternoon and relaxation around the lodge.

Kaziranga - Guwahati Transfer, Flight to Kolkata
Kaziranga National Park → Guwahati
In the morning, drive to Guwahati where we board our flight to Kolkata.
Welcome reception upon arrival by the local correspondent and hotel installation. Located on the east bank of the Hooghly River (an outlet of the Ganges), Kolkata is the main commercial, cultural and educational center of eastern India. It is also home to the oldest port facilities that constitute India's largest port. Both a place of development in the 19th and early 20th century of the Bengali Renaissance, a collection of the arts and religions of Bengal, Kolkata has developed a strong artistic tradition: theater, cinema, literature have brought it a wide audience. Kolkata thus holds a rich and unique cultural heritage.

Kolkata to Sundarbans National Park Transfer
Kolkata → Sundarbans National Park
Departure for Godkhali port. 3 hours of driving through the Bengal plains are necessary to reach the ferry boarding point. River crossing to reach our accommodation. Upon arrival, lunch is served to us. Visit to the exhibition where we will become acquainted with the different species inhabiting the mangrove. Free time at the lodge in the late afternoon. The Sundarbans, a region of Bengal that stretches between Bangladesh and eastern India, constitute the world's largest mangrove. In total 10,000 km2 of which 60% is located in Bangladesh. Listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, biosphere reserve, national park and national reserve for the Bengal tiger, they rightfully cumulate honorary designations.

Sundarbans National Park
We board a boat for the day that will allow us to enter the aquatic world of the mangrove. Several watchtowers, conducive to better observation of wildlife, stand on the banks. Be vigilant not to miss the secret tiger. Dinner and night at the lodge.

Sunderbans National Park Transfer - Kolkata
Sundarbans National Park → Kolkata
After lunch, a boat excursion to reach the small island-village of Bali. Here we can see how local peasants live. Their main occupations: fishing and weaving. A boat ride on the canals of the Sunderbans completes our stay. Return by vehicle to Kolkata where we arrive in late morning.
Afternoon, visit to the impressive Victoria Memorial, built in white marble in European colonial style. It houses a splendid collection of antiquities. To finish, visit to the Kalivaste temple, on the banks of the Hoogly river.

The information below applies to travelers who are nationals of the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland and Canada traveling to India for a tourist stay. Entry rules may evolve, so we recommend that you verify the information with the official authorities before your departure.
Passport
To enter India, your passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of entry into the country and contain at least two blank pages for immigration stamps.
The document must be in good condition (no damaged, torn or altered pages).
Tourist Visa – e-Visa (Tourist eVisa)
Nationals of the European Economic Area, Switzerland and Canada must be in possession of a valid visa to enter India. There is no visa exemption for a tourist stay.
The most common solution is the Tourist eVisa, available online on the official Indian government portal. It is available for several durations:
Tourist eVisa 30 days (double entry),
Tourist eVisa 1 year (multiple entries, maximum stay of 90 days per visit),
Tourist eVisa 5 years (multiple entries, maximum stay of 90 days per visit).
The application must be submitted online at least 4 days before your arrival date and at most 120 days before. The eVisa is linked to your passport and is available only at certain designated airports and ports of entry.
Arrival and Immigration
When passing through immigration, Indian authorities may ask for:
confirmation of your eVisa (printed document or digital version),
an exit ticket from the territory (return flight or onward journey),
proof of sufficient financial resources for the duration of your stay,
the address of your first accommodation in India.
Health and Vaccinations
No vaccine is officially mandatory to enter India from the EEA, Switzerland or Canada, except in the case of transit through a country at risk of yellow fever (a yellow fever vaccination certificate will then be required).
As a preventive measure, health authorities generally recommend the following vaccinations:
hepatitis A and hepatitis B,
typhoid,
tetanus-poliomyelitis,
rabies (depending on planned activities),
Japanese encephalitis (depending on regions and length of stay).
Antimalarial treatment may be recommended depending on the regions you visit and the time of year. Consult a doctor or international vaccination center before your departure.
Traveling with Children
Minors must be holders of their own valid passport and their own eVisa covering the duration of the stay.
In certain European countries, when a minor travels without one of their parents, an exit authorization from the territory may be required according to the regulations of their country of residence.
Other Nationalities
Entry conditions may vary depending on nationality. Travelers concerned should inquire with the Indian embassy or consulate in their country of residence.
