History of Cherrapunji
The history of the people of Cherrapunji dates back to the early 16th century. Originally, indigenous communities inhabited this part of Inde under a tribal regime governed by a Raja.

The rainfall that year recorded more than 22,987 mm of precipitation. In July 1861 alone, the volume of rain at Cherrapunji reached over 9,300 mm. Between August 1, 1860 and July 31, 1861, the quantity of rain that fell on the city approached 26,460 mm. Since then, Cherrapunji has been featured in the Guinness Book of Records!
