Equally characteristic of India: the intensive use of the horn… Yet the road network improves each year, steadily enhancing transportation conditions.

Automobile Travel

Navigating Indian roads defies Western logic. Driving can be summed up as follows: everyone drives down the middle, vehicles swerve to avoid each other at the last moment on the left, all accompanied by insistent horn honking. Priority goes to the heaviest and fastest. In order: buses, trucks, cars, motorcycles, bicycles, and finally pedestrians. Not forgetting the placid cows, utterly assured of their right of way. The result is an anarchic ensemble that, surprisingly enough, remains quite fluid (except near intersections). A must-experience adventure!

In Cities

Delhi boasts a modern metro that comfortably connects you to Connaught Place: the heart of major department stores and luxury chains.

Otherwise, don't hesitate to use auto-rickshaws (tuk tuks). An electric version is beginning to appear in select cities.

Travel by Bus and Train

If you travel independently or in small groups, don't shy away from buses or trains. Opt for long-distance coaches (comfortable) or upper classes on trains.
