Yangsum Heritage Farm is a heritage farm in West Sikkim, situated at 1,500 metres altitude, 2 km from the village of Rinchenpong. Built in 1833 and renovated in 1966, the property spans 44 acres of agricultural and forest land in the mountains, actively worked by the owning family.
Why stay at Yangsum Heritage Farm
- A working family farm open to visitors for nearly two centuries, welcoming only a limited number of guests.
- A rural immersion in West Sikkim, a region less travelled than neighbouring valleys.
- A 44-acre expanse combining cultivation, pasture and mid-mountain forest.
- An ideal base for travellers seeking quiet, walking and direct exchange with hosts.
The atmosphere: a working mountain farm
The main house, dating from 1833, retains its original character following the 1966 renovation: timber structure, family reception rooms, open terraces overlooking the valley. Across the 44-acre property, vegetation typical of the Himalayan foothills flourishes: pine, Himalayan alder, schima, chestnut, magnolia, rhododendrons and cherry trees line the farm's pathways.
The rhythm of your stay follows the farm's seasonal activities. Hosts willingly accompany visitors across the plots, explaining the crops and forest management of the estate. Shared meals offer an insight into traditional Sikkimese family cuisine.
Bedrooms
Accommodation comprises four spacious double bedrooms:
- Two bedrooms with semi-attached bathrooms;
- Two bedrooms with private bathrooms.
All bathrooms are equipped with Western-style toilets and showers. The house has electricity and hot and cold running water. Limited to four bedrooms, the intimate atmosphere is preserved: advance booking is strongly recommended, especially during peak season.
