Traveling to India
This year it's decided—your next vacation destination is India!
You'll have no difficulty reaching India since most major international airlines offer flights to this destination. You'll have the choice between several direct flights from Paris and Geneva, or numerous connections via the Gulf countries, or even via Russia.
International Airports in India
It's worth noting that in France, it remains common practice to refer to Indian cities by the names assigned during the colonial period. However, since India's independence in 1947, many cities have reclaimed their original appellations, a process that continues to this day.
Some well-known examples:
Calcutta = Kolkata
Bombay = Mumbai
Cochin = Kochi
Madras = Chennai
But others are more exotic!
Trivandrum = Thiruvananthapuram
Ahmedabad = Karnavati
Cities with international airports are numerous: Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Chennai. They're served by flights from France and most European countries alike. The e-visa can be obtained at these airports upon arrival.
Indian Airlines
India boasts numerous airlines serving destinations throughout India and internationally.
Budget Airlines
Many private Indian airlines have emerged in recent years, offering highly competitive fares for domestic travel. Their service is often excellent, they operate modern aircraft, and pilots are well-trained. During the summer season, flights to Leh in Ladakh are in high demand. IndiGo tops the list and is extremely popular.
Arriving in India by Land
If you're entering India by land, you must obtain your visa before departure. Land border crossings are not currently authorized to issue the E-tourist visa. You can easily reach India from neighboring countries such as Nepal by bus or train.
