The Elephanta Caves
Despite their name, no elephants await you in these caves dedicated to Shiva. Built in the 6th century, they house numerous shrines, carvings, and striking passages bearing witness to the past through bas-reliefs and stone statues. These caverns are located on Elephanta Island in Mumbai Bay. The ferry departs from the Gateway of India.

The Gateway of India
Before boarding the ferry, why not spend a few moments admiring the famous Gateway of India in the Colaba district. Inaugurated in 1924 after nine years of construction undertaken to honor King George V on his visit to Mumbai, it stands opposite the Taj Mahal Palace—a photo opportunity absolutely worth taking!

One of the city's oldest docks! Before heading north, venture a few hundred meters south to haggle over or sample fish and seafood in all its varieties—a little corner of urban paradise.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Railway Station
A stone's throw north of the docks and Colaba district stands Chhatrapati Shivaji Railway Station, a neo-Gothic jewel in India's largest city. Inaugurated in 1888 and formerly known as Victoria Station, it serves much of the country's rail network. The building has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004.

Dhobi Ghat
Let's follow the rails northward. A few hundred meters from the station lies Jacob Circle, home to a truly remarkable place: Dhobi Ghat. A giant open-air laundry housing countless washing operations, all run by men. Alight at Mahalaxmi station and head toward the nearby bridge for an unforgettable view of this folksy landmark.

Bombay's Bazaars
The waterfront quarters overflow with shops and Indian markets. South of Mahalaxmi Dhobi Ghat, toward the beach, stands Chira Bazaar, emblematic of Mumbai. Let the atmosphere enchant you, but mind you don't get lost!
