Indian Dance
Like music, Indian dance forms trace their roots back to the ancient era of the Vedas. There are two primary types of dance: classical and folk.
Folk Dance
Each state showcases distinct performances reflective of regional cultures. Dancers perform during secular and religious ceremonies. What unites them: vibrant, state-specific costumes and an abundance of ornamental jewelry.
Classical Dance
Kerala in southern India is home to Kathakali, an elaborate form of dance theatre that demands hours of intricate makeup application for its performers. Numerous performances presented across Europe have established the international reputation of this choreography, which recreates episodes from Hindu epics.
Other, lesser-known dance forms are practiced in neighbouring states.
