On Kota Road in Bundi, The Hadoti Palace blends colonial architecture with Rajasthani inspiration, facing Taragarh Fort, in the heart of Hadoti country.

The Hadoti Palace, a characterful stopover in Bundi

Located on Kota Road in Bundi, The Hadoti Palace combines colonial architecture with medieval Rajasthani inspirations. The property takes its name from the Hadoti region, a territory in southeastern Rajasthan of which Bundi is one of the cultural centers. The establishment features 43 rooms including 7 suites, many with direct views of Taragarh Fort, which dominates the city.

Why stay here

  • A mid-sized property offering an alternative to the major Rajasthani capitals overwhelmed with tourists.
  • Frontal views of Taragarh Fort from select rooms and suites.
  • An immersion in Hadoti culture, still underrepresented on the classic Rajasthan tourist circuit.
  • An in-house restaurant and the possibility of dining poolside around a campfire.

Ambiance and architecture

The building draws on two registers: a British colonial-inspired envelope, inherited from late 19th-century India, and decorative elements evoking medieval Rajasthani palaces and havelis—lobed arches, sculpted motifs, worked stonework. The overall effect remains restrained compared to the grand palaces of Jaipur or Udaipur, in keeping with Bundi's more intimate and preserved character.

Common areas open onto the pool and views of the fort, particularly striking in late afternoon when the stone takes on ochre tones.

Rooms and suites

Accommodation comprises 36 standard rooms and 7 suites. The suites offer the best perspectives on Taragarh Fort, which overlooks Bundi from its hilltop. Volumes and furnishings draw on revisited Rajasthani furniture codes, without decorative excess.

The existing content does not detail additional categories or room sizes: we recommend confirming configurations (twin/double beds, guaranteed views or not) directly at the time of booking.

Dining and services

Restaurant Taragarh

The main restaurant bears the name of the neighboring fort. The menu blends northern Indian cuisine, Rajasthani specialties—dal baati churma, gatte ki sabzi, laal maas depending on the day—and a few Chinese and Continental options for long-stay travelers. The chefs hail from the region and source ingredients locally, with both vegetarian and non-vegetarian offerings.

Poolside campfire dinner

Upon request, dinner can be arranged around a campfire by the pool. A popular option during the cooler season, from November to February, when Bundi evenings cool considerably.

Location

Kota Road is one of Bundi's key thoroughfares, connecting the city to Kota, its larger railway neighbor located about thirty kilometers away. The location allows for quick access to the historic center, Garh Palace, and the ghats of Nawal Sagar Lake, while remaining removed from the bustle of the bazaars.

Expect approximately 5 to 6 hours by road from Jaipur and 4 to 5 hours from Udaipur. Kota Junction remains the most convenient railway station for reaching Bundi by train.

What to see and do nearby

  • Taragarh Fort: a 14th-century fortress dominating the city, accessible on foot via a steep trail.
  • Bundi Palace (Garh Palace) and its Chitrashala frescoes, among the finest mural miniatures in Rajasthan.
  • The baoris (step wells) including the celebrated Raniji ki Baori, a remarkable example of hydraulic architecture.
  • Jait Sagar Lake, a few kilometers away, bordered by cenotaphs and hunting pavilions.

To enrich a Rajasthani itinerary, you can combine Bundi with other properties on the circuit: Shahpura House in Jaipur or Woodville Palace Hotel in Shimla for an extension toward the Himalayan foothills.
